Megan Threats
Megan Threats is a 3rd year PhD student at the School of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying health information behavior and health behavior change. Prior to beginning her doctoral studies, Megan worked as the Public Services and Reference Librarian at the AIDS Library of Philadelphia. In her role, she helped develop innovative approaches to delivering and improving access to health information for patients living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illness and diseases.She has served as a certified HIV/AIDS health educator for the AIDS Activities Coordinating Office in Philadelphia delivering presentations about HIV risk reduction, HIV testing, and treatment options. She coordinated Step Up Against AIDS; an STD/STI testing initiative aimed at high-risk youth between the ages of 15-24 living in Philadelphia, and taught various health information literacy courses around the city of Philadelphia.Megan is committed to learning about the health information behavior of populations that are disproportionately affected by health disparities and most likely to have limited access to quality healthcare. She earned her MSLIS at Syracuse University, and was awarded a Doctoral Merit Assistantship by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as the Gates Millennium Scholarship by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to complete her doctoral studies.
